ON THE COVER: Schistosoma mansoni: these flukes live in the mesenteric veins of humans (and experimentally infected animals, e.g. mice). The male schistosome carries the thinner female in his "gynecophoric canal". Note the suckers, particularly large on the male, which allow these worms to attach to and "walk" along the endothelia of blood vessels, despite the blood stream.
