ON THE COVER: A vial of Dryvax(R) dried calf lymph type smallpox vaccine, which is reconstituted with a diluent prior to vaccination. Vaccinia (smallpox) vaccine, derived from calf lymph, and currently licensed in the United States, is a lyophilized, live-virus preparation of infectious vaccinia virus.
